Teeth Whitening MA: What to Do After Your Appointment

Teeth whitening can provide many benefits like boosted confidence and an enhanced smile. To ensure these results last as long as possible, taking a few precautions to maintain that bright smile is essential. This month at Smile Boutique, we’re discussing the dos and don’ts of what to do after your teeth whitening session. And in the meantime, when you’re looking to schedule an appointment for teeth whitening in MA, choose Smile Boutique!

Avoid Staining Foods and Drinks

After teeth whitening, it’s important to avoid any dark-colored foods and beverages for up to 24-48 hours after your session. This includes things like coffee, tea, red wine, and foods with intense coloring, like beets and berries. Consuming these foods and drinks will stain your teeth and reverse your results. We recommend sticking to lighter-colored foods like fish, pasta, poultry, and clear or white beverages for this time frame.

However, if you must drink darker-colored beverages, we recommend using a straw to minimize the contact between the liquid and your teeth. This will further help reduce the risk of staining. Another way to ensure you’re avoiding the proper foods and drink is if it would stain a white t-shirt, then you should avoid it!

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

Even though good oral hygiene is vital in general, it’s especially crucial to practice oral hygiene to maintain your results. Brushing twice daily, flossing daily, and using mouthwash will help kill bacteria and freshen your breath. Flossing will also remove any food debris stuck in hard-to-reach areas that could further stain your teeth.

As we mentioned earlier to stay away from heavily colored foods and beverages, it’s also important to avoid colored dental products. This includes heavily colored mouthwash, toothpaste, and floss.

Avoid Acidic Foods and Beverages

When your teeth are whitened, the pores of the tooth become larger, making them more vulnerable to staining and damage to your enamel. Because of this, avoid acidic foods like citrus fruits, pickled foods, and soda.
