Life happens. Even if you brush your teeth morning and night, some still find it challenging to keep your pearly whites well… white. While we recommend that you book an appointment for a teeth whitening session, many people have resulted with whitening their teeth at home. Smile Boutique has been a go-to MA cosmetic dentistry office since 1982, providing a warm, cozy, and welcoming environment for new and returning customers.

What Causes Your Teeth to Become Yellow?

There are several reasons why your teeth could be yellowing even if you are brushing. There are numerous foods that are known to stain the enamel of your teeth. These include; coffee, tomato sauce, soda, red wine, and balsamic vinegar. Here is a list of the most common ways that you could whiten your teeth at home.

Teeth Whitening Toothpastes

If you are not getting a nice and clean white color from your current toothpaste, the chances are that you may need to change it up a little. Some studies on toothpaste have shown that they do not clean the teeth, let alone make your teeth whiter. Luckily, there is quite a handful of recommended toothpaste brands such as Colgate, Crest, Sensodyne, Tom’s of Maine, and more.

Teeth Whitening Kits

There is a plentiful selection of kits on the market for teeth whitening at home. Many of the companies that have been trusted and recommended by dentists for decades. Teeth whitening kits come in all shapes and sizes like gels, strips, and LED light systems you can place inside your mouth.

Natural Remedies

While the solutions above have seen a growing amount of success, there are still concerns surfacing from them. One of those concerns is the over-exposure of chemicals to your teeth. For this reason, some have been looking into ways that they could naturally whiten their teeth.

  • Oil Pulling – Oil pulling is an Indian folk remedy used to improve the state of your oral health. Typically, they would use sunflower, sesame, or coconut oil once a day to swish in their mouths, not swallowing the fluid. While some use this method, there is no scientific evidence of teeth whitening benefits.
  • Baking Soda – Baking Soda is used in several kinds of toothpaste on the market today. While science has not proven that baking soda whitens teeth, toothpastes that included baking soda in them were shown to work better than those without.
  • Eating Fruits and Vegetables – Not only are fruits and vegetables good for your body, but they are great for your teeth as well. Raw and crunchy fruits and vegetables can remove plaque from your teeth as you chew.
